The experienced staff from the machine shop is in charge of: specifying and buying
the materials and components to the experimental rigs, machine the parts, assemble
the parts and finally put them in operation. The technical staff also participates
from the design stages of the experimental rigs and very often do follow up the
experimental work. Most of the set ups employ several materials requiring from the
team specific skills to work with steel, stainless steel, aluminum, cooper, wood,
plexiglass and rubber. Despite of the skilled people from the machine shop the
2PFG
highly recommends the engagement of the students with the shop activities related to
their research work. We believe it is a good opportunity to have the students to
put the hands on as well as to have them face the difficulties in constructing an
apparatus. Definitely they will come out of this job with more experience in design.
The machine shop is in an area of nearly 80m2. It is equipped with
stationary machines such as: lathe, milling machine, driller, guillotine and saw.
It also has a torch and electrical welding plus several hand machines and all sorts
of pliers, screw drivers, tonges, vices, and keys.
